Woodbury Dental Arts refund program (Minnesota Attorney General)

Woodbury Dental Arts took payment for dental work it never carried out and then filed for bankruptcy in March 2024. The Minnesota Attorney General's Office is refunding those out-of-pocket payments from the state's Consumer Protection Restitution Account: as of April 27, 2026 it had taken 341 claims and sent 76 checks totalling $1,047,209.82, and it says it is still reviewing claims. Former patients who paid for services that were not provided may be eligible — the office notifies people by email or letter, asks for proof of payment, and gives 60 days from that notice rather than a fixed calendar deadline. Claiming through the Attorney General is free; anyone who has not been contacted can call (612) 429-7130 or email woodburydental@ag.state.mn.us.

Settlements pay in batches, often in tiers, and a distribution can run for months between the first payment and the last. A start date means the administrator has begun paying valid claims — it does not mean any particular claim has been paid, and it is not a sign that a payment is on its way to any particular person.

If you filed and nothing has arrived, the administrator is the only one who can tell you where your claim stands. We hold no claim records and cannot look one up.

Expected

The Attorney General's Office says it continues to review claims and sends refund checks as it approves them; no closing date for the program is stated.

Read off the official notice, in its own words. These dates slip — an appeal can move a distribution by a year or more — so treat it as the administrator's plan rather than a schedule.

Average payment — our estimate

$13,779

This is our own arithmetic from the figures on the official page, not a number the administrator published.

Our estimate: the $1,047,209.82 the office reported refunding as of April 27, 2026, divided by the 76 checks it had sent — about $13,779. No average has been published. Each refund is the amount that person actually paid for work never done, so individual cheques are far apart.

An average is not a forecast of any individual payment. Plans that pay pro rata, in tiers, or against documented losses produce amounts that vary enormously around it — many land well below the average, and some claims are paid nothing.

Covered products and services

  • Dental treatment paid for in advance at Woodbury Dental Arts

Refunds come from Minnesota's Consumer Protection Restitution Account, created by the Legislature in 2025 so the Attorney General can repay consumers when the business that took their money has gone bankrupt. As of April 27, 2026 the office had received 341 claims and sent 76 checks totalling $1,047,209.82. The Minnesota House news service reported in February 2026 that the Woodbury dentist matter had brought over 300 claims and was expected to total under $5 million. A refund is what you can show you paid for work never done, so nothing is guaranteed.
