Legal — How we research

Editorial policy

This site is only as trustworthy as its sourcing. These are the rules every record and article follows.

Official sources only

Records are researched from official settlement administrator sites, FTC and CFPB refund pages, court dockets and court-authorized notices, USA.gov, and the NAUPA state-treasurer directory. We do not copy competitor databases, and we never store person-level results from government searches.

Verification

Every record shows the date we last checked it. Records that go unchecked for more than 14 days, or whose deadlines fall within 10 days, go into a re-verification queue. Deadlines and payout terms change without warning — re-read the official notice before you act on anything here.

Summaries are original

Record summaries and articles are written in our own words from official materials. We do not reproduce notices or claim forms. If our summary ever disagrees with an official document, the official document controls.

Corrections

If you spot an outdated or wrong detail, the fastest fix is the official administrator or agency page linked on the record — their information is authoritative. You can also flag errors to us through the contact form at /contact.

Names in case captions, and removal requests

Some records quote a court's own case caption, which can name the person who brought the case. Those captions are public court records and we do not add anything to them. If you are named in one and would rather not appear here, send the record's address through the contact form at /contact: we keep a suppression list, and we remove the caption within seven days without asking why. The record itself stays, pointing at the official notice.
