FTC SL Finance Refunds
The FTC is sending 7,150 checks totaling more than $356,900 to people who paid SL Finance for student debt relief services. According to the FTC, the company and its owners impersonated the Department of Education, including inventing COVID-19 relief programs, collected illegal upfront fees, and falsely promised to reduce or erase student loans. Payments are automatic, and a check should be cashed within 90 days. The FTC's page does not state a date range for affected customers, so call the administrator, Analytics, at 1-833-588-3361 to check. The FTC will not ask you to pay money to receive a refund.
There is no claim form for this one. The administrator pays consumers it has already identified, so the useful step is to make sure they can reach you — not to file anything. Anyone offering to file it for you, for a fee, is selling you nothing.
