FTC Equifax Data Breach Settlement
The Equifax settlement set aside up to $425 million for the 147 million people whose personal information was exposed in the breach Equifax announced in September 2017, and the deadline to file a claim has passed: it was January 22, 2024. In November 2024 the settlement administrator began sending prepaid cards with additional payments to people who had already received one, and free identity restoration services remain available until January 2029 to anyone affected, even without a claim. The page gives no payment count or total for this round and states no eligibility date range; use the look-up tool at www.EquifaxBreachSettlement.com or call 1-833-759-2982 to see whether you were affected. The FTC will not ask you to pay money to receive a refund.
There is no claim form for this one. The administrator pays consumers it has already identified, so the useful step is to make sure they can reach you — not to file anything. Anyone offering to file it for you, for a fee, is selling you nothing.
