Hydra Group unauthorized payday loan CFPB redress

The CFPB alleged that the Hydra Group bought people's bank details from data brokers, deposited payday loans they had never agreed to, and then debited biweekly finance charges indefinitely. The Bureau began mailing checks in December 2020 and still lists this distribution as ongoing. If unauthorized loans or repeated finance charges from these lenders hit your account, you may be eligible, and there is no claim form to file. Amounts are estimates limited by what the defendants could actually pay, and the administrator charges nothing.

There is no claim form for this one. The administrator pays consumers it has already identified, so the useful step is to make sure they can reach you — not to file anything. Anyone offering to file it for you, for a fee, is selling you nothing.

CFPB v. Hydra Group · U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri

The settlements forfeited roughly $14 million in assets, with a much larger redress judgment suspended because the defendants could not pay it. Payments therefore reflect the recovered funds rather than the headline judgment, and each amount is an estimate set by the administrator. Nothing is filed and nothing is charged.

Eligibility questions

These questions help you decide whether to read the official notice. They are not a legal determination.

Did an online payday loan you had not applied for ever appear in your bank account?
Were repeated finance charges then debited from that account without your agreement?
