American Electric Power SEC Fair Fund for AEP investors

The SEC is distributing a $19,000,000 Fair Fund to investors who bought or acquired American Electric Power common stock (AEP) between January 1, 2018 and June 7, 2021, the period covered by the Commission's order over the company's funding of, and statements about, Empowering Ohio's Economy. Claim forms must be postmarked, or submitted on the Fair Fund site, by November 23, 2026, and the plan asks for broker records of what you bought and sold in that window — so if you held AEP shares then, you may be eligible. Payments are calculated from documented losses and are scaled down pro rata if the fund cannot cover every loss, with nothing paid where a share works out below $20. Epiq administers the fund and filing on the official site is free.

Expected

The approved plan names no payment date. Epiq reviews claims after the November 23, 2026 bar date, sends each claimant a determination notice within 150 days of it, and pays only once the Commission orders the fund disbursed.

Read off the official notice, in its own words. These dates slip — an appeal can move a distribution by a year or more — so treat it as the administrator's plan rather than a schedule.

Covered products and services

In the Matter of American Electric Power Company, Inc. · Admin. Proc. File No. 3-22425 · U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (administrative proceeding)

Each valid claim is paid against a recognized loss worked out under the plan of allocation, and every claim is scaled down pro rata if the recognized losses add up to more than the fund. The plan pays nothing where a share calculates below $20.00, and reallocates that money to larger claims. Every figure here is an estimate rather than a promise, and filing on the official Fair Fund site costs nothing.
