Lloyd's of London syndicate insurance settlement

A $3,570,000 partial settlement closes part of a 2008 antitrust case over how insurance was placed through certain Lloyd's of London syndicates. If you or your business bought or renewed a contract of insurance with one of the Lloyd's syndicates named as defendants between January 1, 1997 and April 15, 2025, you may be eligible to claim. The notice says payments are worked out from the premiums paid rather than as a flat amount, so no per-claimant figure is published. Claims close October 30, 2026 and the fairness hearing is on October 23, 2026 in Newark. Filing on the official settlement site is free, and only the administrator and the court decide who is paid.

Expected

The notice ties distribution to the October 23, 2026 fairness hearing in Newark and to the settlement becoming final, and does not give a payment date.

Read off the official notice, in its own words. These dates slip — an appeal can move a distribution by a year or more — so treat it as the administrator's plan rather than a schedule.

There is no flat amount. The notice says distributions are calculated from the premium paid on the qualifying policies, using publicly available information together with what the claim form supplies, so what any one claimant receives depends on their own premiums and on how many valid claims arrive. The claims administrator may ask for supporting documentation or extra information when auditing a claim. No payout figure is published and every amount here is an estimate rather than a promise.

Where the settlement fund goes

A $3,570,000 settlement fund held in an interest-bearing account, from which the notice says court-approved fees, expenses and administration costs come before class member distributions.

Why this case happened

This is a long-running antitrust case, filed in 2008, alleging that certain Lloyd's of London syndicates and brokers concealed a lack of competition in the way insurance was placed at Lloyd's. It has settled in parts over the years; this partial settlement covers the remaining syndicate defendants. They deny the claims and the court has not decided them.

Eligibility questions

These questions help you decide whether to read the official notice. They are not a legal determination.

Did you or your business buy or renew a contract of insurance through a Lloyd's of London syndicate between January 1, 1997 and April 15, 2025?

The notice names the specific syndicates; a broker placed the cover, so the syndicate may appear only on the policy paperwork.

Do you still have the policy documents or premium records for that cover?

Distributions are calculated from premium paid, and the administrator may ask for supporting documents.
