Heritage South Credit Union data breach settlement

Heritage South Credit Union has settled a class action over a breach it detected on February 12, 2025; the notice says an unauthorized party reached its network and that names, addresses, Social Security numbers or financial account numbers may have been involved. The class is living US residents the credit union identified and sent notice to, so if that letter reached you, you may be eligible. A claim can cover up to four hours of lost time at $20 an hour and up to $2,000 in documented out-of-pocket losses, plus a year of credit monitoring. Claims close October 5, 2026, and filing on the official settlement site is free.

Expected

The notice says payments are distributed only if the court grants final approval at the October 19, 2026 hearing and after any appeals are resolved.

Read off the official notice, in its own words. These dates slip — an appeal can move a distribution by a year or more — so treat it as the administrator's plan rather than a schedule.

In re: Heritage South Credit Union Data Breach Litigation · 61-CV-2025-900175 · Circuit Court for Talladega County, Alabama

Up to four hours of lost time at $20 an hour, and up to $2,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses dated between February 12, 2025 and October 5, 2026. Every class member can also take one year of CyEx Financial Shield Total monitoring, which the notice says carries $1 million of financial fraud insurance. The online form asks for the Login ID and PIN from the mailed notice; the administrator will re-send those by email, and a printable form can be mailed instead. The notice states no fund total, and these are ceilings rather than promised amounts.
