Money Owed To Me

DOJ victim remission fund · Open

Justice Department victim remission and restoration funds

When the Justice Department forfeits assets from a fraud, it can return that money to the victims through a remission fund instead of sending it to the Treasury. This page is the department's own list of those matters — AirBit Club, Backpage, Western Union, CentraTech, Sterling, OneCoin and others — with the administrator and official website named for each. If you lost money to one of the schemes listed, you may be eligible to file a petition on that matter's own official site; each sets its own deadline and rules, and several on the list have already finished paying. Petitioning is free, and the department states that it and its administrators never ask for payment to take part.

Every matter sets its own petition deadline and its own loss rules, and payments are normally pro rata against whatever assets were forfeited, so amounts are estimates rather than guarantees. The Justice Department and its administrators never charge anyone to take part.

Eligibility questions

These questions help you decide whether to read the official notice. They are not a legal determination.

Did you lose money to a fraud or scheme whose assets federal prosecutors seized?
Is the company or scheme that took your money named on the official remission page?

The page lists each matter that has a compensation process and links its official site.

Has anyone asked you to pay a fee to file a remission petition?

Official petitions cost nothing, so a request for payment is a warning sign.
