Laboratory Services Cooperative data breach settlement

Laboratory Services Cooperative, which handles lab testing for Planned Parenthood health centers in more than 30 states, has agreed to a $6,100,000 settlement over a data incident it says it became aware of on or about October 27, 2024. If you were employed by LSC, or received or paid for lab testing ordered by a Planned Parenthood health center on or before that date, you may be eligible to claim a pro rata cash payment of up to $1,000 with no paperwork, reimbursement of up to $5,000 in documented out-of-pocket losses, and two years of credit and medical-identity monitoring. Claims are due by November 24, 2026, and the court decides whether to approve the settlement on January 4, 2027. Filing on the official settlement site is free, and only the administrator and the court decide who is paid.

Expected

The notice says benefits are distributed only if the court grants final approval at the January 4, 2027 hearing and after any appeals are resolved or the time to appeal has run out, so timing is uncertain.

Read off the official notice, in its own words. These dates slip — an appeal can move a distribution by a year or more — so treat it as the administrator's plan rather than a schedule.

In re Laboratory Services Cooperative Data Breach Litigation · 2:25-cv-00685-BJR · U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington

Three benefits, all claimed on the same form. The cash fund payment is pro rata up to $1,000, so the real figure depends on how many valid claims arrive and what is left in the fund; it needs no documents. Documented out-of-pocket losses are reimbursed up to $5,000 per person and do need receipts or statements, and self-prepared notes are not enough on their own. There is also two years of Medical Shield Complete by CyEx. Every amount is an estimate from the notice, not a guaranteed payment.

Where the settlement fund goes

A $6,100,000 settlement fund, which the notice says also pays notice and administration expenses, a court-approved fee and expense award, service awards, the documented out-of-pocket loss claims and the credit and medical monitoring services before the pro rata cash payments are calculated.

Why this case happened

Laboratory Services Cooperative processes lab tests for Planned Parenthood health centers in more than 30 states. The lawsuit concerns a data incident that LSC says it became aware of on or about October 27, 2024, which may have exposed the personal information of current and former patients and employees. LSC denies all of the claims and the court has not decided them.

Eligibility questions

These questions help you decide whether to read the official notice. They are not a legal determination.

Did you receive or pay for lab testing ordered by a Planned Parenthood health center on or before October 27, 2024?

The testing was processed by Laboratory Services Cooperative, so its name may not appear on anything you were given.

Were you a current or former employee of Laboratory Services Cooperative on or before October 27, 2024?

Employees are covered as well as patients.

Do you have receipts, statements or other records for money you spent because of this data incident?

Documents are needed only for the out-of-pocket loss option; the cash fund payment asks for none.

Are you an officer or director of Laboratory Services Cooperative, or an immediate family member of the judge in this case?

The notice excludes these people from the settlement class.
