FTC Consumer Defense Refunds
The FTC is sending a second round of 4,460 payments totaling more than $331,000 to people who paid fees to Consumer Defense, a mortgage relief operation that also traded as Preferred Law, American Home Loans, and Modification Review Board. This round goes to people who accepted the first payment, sent in January 2024, which returned more than $897,000; cash a check within 90 days. The FTC's page does not state a date range for affected customers, so call the refund administrator on 1-877-595-0141 to check. The FTC will not ask you to pay money to receive a refund.
There is no claim form for this one. The administrator pays consumers it has already identified, so the useful step is to make sure they can reach you — not to file anything. Anyone offering to file it for you, for a fee, is selling you nothing.
