Clay-Platte Family Medicine data breach settlement

Clay-Platte Family Medicine Clinic and three affiliated Kansas City-area practices told roughly 53,916 patients that criminals took names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and medical information from their servers on or around June 26, 2024. If you were sent one of those notices, you may be eligible for a share of a $1 million settlement — up to $15,000 for documented losses, or a pro rata cash payment if you would rather not gather paperwork — plus three years of medical and credit monitoring. Claims close September 30, 2026, the day after the court considers final approval. Filing on the official settlement site is free.

Expected

The notice says no settlement benefits are provided unless the court approves the settlement and that approval becomes final; the final approval hearing is set for September 29, 2026.

Read off the official notice, in its own words. These dates slip — an appeal can move a distribution by a year or more — so treat it as the administrator's plan rather than a schedule.

Highfill, et al. v. Clay-Platte Family Medicine Clinic, P.C., et al. · 4:24-cv-00704-SRB · U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri

A $1,000,000 fund pays three kinds of benefit. You can claim reimbursement of up to $15,000 for documented losses, which requires supporting records, or instead take a cash payment shared pro rata among everyone who picks that option. Every valid claim can also enroll in three years of medical and three-bureau credit monitoring. The notice says the cash amount is not guaranteed and depends on how many documented-loss claims are approved, so treat any figure as an estimate.
