CBIZ data breach settlement

A 2024 data incident at the accounting and benefits firm CBIZ produced a $485,000 settlement covering the 19,990 people the company mailed a breach notice to. If you received one of those notices you may be eligible to file: the site estimates the cash payment at roughly $100 at a 10 percent claims rate, and separately offers reimbursement of up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses. Claims close on December 24, 2026, and the online form opens with the LoginID and PIN printed on the mailed postcard, which the administrator will reissue if you no longer have it. Filing on the official site is free, and the court reviews the settlement on January 13, 2027.

Expected

The court is scheduled to consider final approval on January 13, 2027. The notice says benefits follow approval and the resolution of any appeal, so no payment date is set.

Read off the official notice, in its own words. These dates slip — an appeal can move a distribution by a year or more — so treat it as the administrator's plan rather than a schedule.

A $485,000 fund for a settlement class the site puts at 19,990 people. The site describes the cash payment as roughly $100 assuming a 10 percent claims rate, and says the figure is adjusted against what is left in the fund after fees and valid claims — so it is an estimate that moves both ways, not a set amount. The settlement also offers reimbursement of up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses traced to the incident. The online claim form opens only with the LoginID and PIN printed on the mailed postcard notice, which the administrator will reissue on request.

Eligibility questions

These questions help you decide whether to read the official notice. They are not a legal determination.

Did you receive a letter or postcard saying your information may have been involved in the CBIZ data incident?

The class is everyone the company mailed a notice to, so that letter is what defines it.

Do you have receipts or statements for money you lost or spent because of the incident?

Documented out-of-pocket losses can be claimed up to $5,000. The cash payment needs no receipts.

Did you ask to be excluded from this settlement?
